Practice makes perfect

September 30, 2009. Category: rehearsal dinner

So you’ve saved the date, chosen a wedding venue and maybe even started looking at dresses. Now it’s time for the groom (or his mom) to start pulling their weight and get on the rehearsal dinner. A few unexpected options that will be a fun start to the weekend without feeling like a mini-wedding. Hook in Georgetown for super fresh seafood, Perry’s in Adams Morgan on their unbelievable roof deck and Zaytinya for Mediterranean tapas and a lively buzz.

Thank you for smoking

September 28, 2009. Category: uncategorized

I’m not a smoker, nor am I trying to promote the habit, but I admit many a groom would be excited to have a surprise cigar “bar” at his reception. Many of our brides have provided this masculine element for their groom and his friends (and perhaps even a few adventurous bridesmaids.) I can’t tell you what brands are best, but the experts at Georgetown Tobacco sure can. They have all the accessories that you will need including matches and cutters. Be sure to check that there is an area at your venue where you can light up- usually outside and have a few ashtrays on hand. And a few mints might be a good idea too.

Fiesta, forever

September 25, 2009. Category: decor

We spend a ton of time at parties, but rarely do we get to let our hair down and have any fun. Thanks to Christopher and Rick at Amaryllis, we got to do just that at their annual client party. As you can see, the room looked amazing. What you don’t see is all the wild partying that transpired. Thankfully, what happened at the W, stays at the W.

Sorry to be out of touch. We are in the the midst of full wedding craziness and loving every minute of it!

In the meantime, how do you (and your planner) to come up with the “look” for your wedding? I ask my brides to pull photos that they love from magazines to crete an inspiration board. In a later blog, we will show you how an inspiration board came together for a real wedding.
But where should you look for your inspiration?   Martha is a given but,  I also love, Bride & Bloom and Architectural Digest and Vogue. Nobody said they had to be wedding magazines!

Now that you know everything there is to know about thank you notes, why not consider sharing the wealth with your bridesmaids? A custom address stamp like the ones made by Three Designing Women and some simple stationary could make a lovely bridesmaid gift. I just wish they could write some of those thank you notes for you!
