Classic Black Tie Wedding at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium

March 24, 2019. Category: anniversary, black tie, classic, uncategorized

This sweet couple had a spectacular wedding day even though every unexpected thing that could happen, did. Luckily for us Jen and Jamie took everything in stride and they had the perfect wedding day despite some aforementioned hiccups!

Wishing you both very happy first anniversary!

After scouring the DC events calendar, Jen and Jamie decided March 24th, 2018 was the perfect day to have a wedding in DC. There were no “scheduled” events, the weather would be great, and the Cherry Blossoms were sure to be in full bloom. They booked their venue – the Andrew Mellon Auditorium – right in the heart of Washington, DC. A few weeks prior to their wedding date, the unfortunate reality set in that snow was in the forecast and the largest anti-gun march ever would be the same day!

The week prior to the wedding, two funny things happened. First, one of Jen’s bridesmaids unfortunately had the wrong wedding date planned. She was leaving for Tokyo for her spring break that Sunday. And guess what? She wasn’t supposed to return until a week and a half later. Jen says she learned just how strong their friendship was when the bridesmaid said she’d fly back early from Tokyo to be there for the big day!

Second, the Monday before the wedding, the couple learned all streets surrounding the Mellon Auditorium would be closed until 6:00 pm on their wedding day. This meant their 5:00 pm wedding ceremony couldn’t happen until 7:00 pm when the streets were open.

The road closures meant no vendor trucks could get near the Mellon Auditorium on Saturday; everything needed to be at the venue by Friday. This included everything from tables and chair to flowers… and a refrigerated truck (guarded by an overnight security guard) with all of their food!

Within two days, they collected email addresses for all 235+ guests, and notified them via Paperless Post about the last minute schedule change. Thank goodness for technology – everyone noted the change and they were good to go! After the 5” of snow hit and completely shut down DC that Wednesday, they thought nothing else could possibly go wrong and they were right – everything after Wednesday was perfect.

Saturday evening was filled with delicious food, tasty cocktails, and amazing music and dancing.

Happy Anniversary Jen and Jamie

We wish you a lifetime of love, laughter and adventure!

Classic Romantic DC Wedding

May 02, 2017. Category: ballroom, classic, real wedding, traditional

For this sweet couple, getting married seemed more eventual than imperative. Even after dating for nearly eight and a half years, and more than enough time to think about it, they didn’t exactly have a vision for their wedding. They definitely knew the ceremony would be traditional – reflective of their shared Jewish values – and they had only one requirement for the reception: it had to be a really fun party! The couple decided on The Ritz-Carlton in Washington DC and their romantic and classic wedding quickly came to life.

The bride and groom incorporated some special details that had a personal touch, from a welcome box full of their favorite treats, to an Ariel & Ben ‘fun fact’ cocktail napkins to delicious late-night snacks and a candy buffet.

Just as they had envisioned, their guests kept the dance floor packed all night making it the perfect celebration!

Real Wedding Thursday- Garden Wedding

November 17, 2016. Category: classic, DC Wedding, garden wedding, real wedding, traditional

We are rounding out the week with another real wedding as part of our #realweddingseries.

We always love to look back at our clients weddings for inspiration and this garden wedding is no excpetion. This lovely couple wanted a romantic, classic, yet carefree and fun wedding and the Fairmont Hotel’s Colonnade Ballroom fit their wedding vision perfectly. It already has such a romantic, airy feeling, so they capitalized on the decor and ambiance the venue already offered and incorporated some light, romantic touches with the help of Edge Floral creating their perfect day!

Congratulations Catherine and Andrew!

October 17, 2016. Category: anniversary, classic, real wedding, timeless, traditional

This lovely couple were married one year ago today in Washington DC. They both loved the history and architecture of the city and wanted a wedding venue that was very “monumental”  The Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium was just that! Since the Mellon is such a stately venue on its own, the bride wanted the decor to be timeless and elegant so she decided on gorgeous white florals by Amaryllis and soft candle light to bring her vision to life!

Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Slotnick we wish you a lifetime of love and laughter.

Congratulations Caroline and Ryan!

September 12, 2016. Category: anniversary, classic, clean, traditional

This sweet couple knew they wanted to get married at The Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium and wanted to create a ‘crisp and clean’ vision for their wedding day.  Since early September still feels very much like summer they knew they wanted the wedding aesthetic to be classic and clean with a lot of creams, whites and crisp greens which was carried through the design from the wedding invitations by Cheree Berry Paper to the flowers designed by Edge Floral.

After the groom found St. Joseph’s church on Capitol Hill for the ceremony, they had the idea of mimicking the starry ceiling from St. Joseph’s and projecting a starry night sky onto the ceiling at the Mellon creating the perfect September Starry Night!

Happy First Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. George, may today and everyday be filled with love, joy and happiness!
