With only one week left until Christmas! We wanted to share what our favorite part of the holiday season is and some of our traditions that we do in our families.
Favorite part of the holiday season: I mean, it’s me so food and decorating. I wish I could have Clark Griswold’s house with ALL the lights but we only have some deer, a Santa and a few lights on our bushes. We do tons of baking, cookies, sticky buns and I have an awesome gingerbread cake with salted caramel buttercream recipe!
Favorite holiday traditions: My family does an act of kindness every day for advent. I am really trying to counteract the idea that the holidays are about getting (gifts/candy) but more about giving and finding joy and excitement in that. Some acts are small, like sitting with someone new at lunch others are bigger, like playing bingo at a retirement home.
Favorite part of the holiday season: I absolutely love giving back during the holiday season with my family! My mom and dad always made it a point to teach my siblings and I that giving back to those less fortunate than us was simply a part of the Christmas season. It doesn’t have to be giving back in a big way – sometimes giving of your time makes a bigger difference than money!
Favorite holiday traditions: One of my favorite holiday traditions is going to Christmas Eve service at my church with my family. I love taking that part outside of the present portion of the holiday to focus on our faith and our family.
Favorite part of the holiday season: My family always go to church on Christmas Eve and it is one of my favorite traditions that we do. There is something wonderful about being a part of something that is bigger than you. I always love how beautiful the churches are decorated and the songs that they sing. Now that I have a family of my own it is even more special.
Favorite holiday traditions: My Family is the most important thing to me in the world, and there is nothing better than Christmas in Connecticut. My mom always decorates the house so beautifully, no detail in spared and she always has a different theme! This year her theme is around “The Grinch” as my 4 year old is just obsessed with him! We also love the message around the Grinch that Christmas “doesn’t come from a store, that Christmas, perhaps means a little bit more!” Spreading small acts of kindness and joy has always been a part of what the holidays mean to my family. So making sure my boys now do that during the holidays is a wonderful thing!
