Sketchbook Series

May 02, 2018. Category: inspiration, wedding planner

Coming up with new ideas for clients is one of the very best parts of my job.  That said, it can be hard to communicate something visual, that doesn’t exist yet. How lush is the floral arch?  When I say asymmetric, are you thinking the same thing? How will the lining from your invite translate onto your cake?  The last thing we want, is to replicate something that has already been done, just because we can’t find a photo of it.

I have wanted to take a sketching class to better communicate with our clients, for ages and this year, I decided to take the leap and do it!  The Sketchbook Series lead by Very Mary Inspired was hosted at Paisley and Jade in Richmond.

The two day class was life changing.  I am only half joking.  I have become obsessed!  Not only am I making time everyday to practice for our clients but I have started drawing all kinds of random things that I see.  My husband is only slightly amused by the now constant bag of sketching pad, pencils and ruler I carry.

As a small business owner, I am always trying to find ways to improve and stay current.  I can’t wait to see how the sketches I am creating will translate to real life moments for our awesome clients!

Here is a sneak peek of some fun things we are working on.

Lilac for Spring

April 19, 2018. Category: attire, inspiration, trends

I have loved fashion and following what is happening on the runway for as long as I can remember.  Once I graduated from FIT and got a job as a wedding planner, it became pretty easy to see how fashion trends make their way to the wedding world.

This season Lilac is all the rage. Pastels are always a popular choice for springtime, but lilac has emerged to be the favorite for the fashion gods and we are seeing it everywhere from suiting to jackets to accessories.  These pastel shades are light, and easy to translate to weddings. And we are sure they will be on everyone’s wedding Pinterest board soon.

Incorporating lilac into weddings will be super easy!  Bring in a pop of color into your bridal look by wearing a lilac hued shoe. Serve a lavender infused cocktail for your specialty drink like a lavender lemonade or lavender gin and tonic. Brighten up your  tablescape with colorful arrangements – try blooming wisteria, sweet peas, hyacinth, lilacs and tulip. Don’t forget that you can bring color to your table through the linen as well. And bridesmaids in lilac, will be fabulous.

You can see our take on the trend here.

Layering lilac linen and water glasses really drive the color home.

Dip into the lilac trend, and have fun with it!

Grease is the Word

November 16, 2017. Category: afterparty, caterering, inspiration

After a long, fun night filled with dancing and celebration, your guests are definitely going to be craving a late night snack. Here are some of our favorite creative ways that party hosts have treated friends and family to delicious mini-meals at the end of the night!

You can’t ever go wrong with a burger and fries, especially from Boardwalk Fries. This classic combo was a huge hit as the party came to a close, and guests were loving the chance to indulge in some yummy sliders and fries at the end of the night.

At the end of this couple’s wedding celebration, they treated guests to the quintessential snack food after a night of fun: pizza! This pizza truck from DC Slices pulled up at the end of the night with several delicious options to satisfy guests’ late-night cravings.

This fabulous sixtieth birthday capped off an unforgettable evening with a wide variety of late-night treats, our favorite being a Breakfast At Midnight bar!

This fun couple stepped out of the box with this taco truck from Surfside in Washington, DC. This creative snack was a huge crowd-pleaser and was the perfect way for this couple to continue the good times had at their celebration!

National Wine Day

May 25, 2017. Category: decor, details, escort cards, inspiration, National Wine Day, real wedding

Did you know that today is National Wine Day? Not that we need a holiday to raise a glass, but it is certainly more fun when we have a good excuse!

We love how this couple’s vineyard wedding in Charlottesville inspired them to use wine bottles as their escort cards, such a fun way for their guess to find their seat.

Congratulations Julia and Nick

April 30, 2017. Category: anniversary, inspiration, rustic industrial

We love looking back at weddings, especially on first anniversaries. This lovely couple fell in love with the raw space at Long View Gallery and knew it would be the perfect location for their rustic, industrial wedding. Surrounded by family and friends, they were married in the round under a floating circle of greenery accented with industrial light bulbs. The bride’s sister and brother officiated their uniquely personal and special ceremony.

Rather than a traditional sit-down dinner, the couple had mixed seating with long communal tables and a fun lounge grouping. Sweet Root Village created lush greenery hanging overhead with bud vases of bright red ranunculus creating an inviting and intimate setting. Guests dined on unique and fun food stations and Baked & Wired cupcakes. while sipping on speciality cocktails and danced the night away!

Happy first anniversary Mr. and Mrs. DiCarlo we wish you a lifetime of love, laughter and adventure.
