Flora to fawn over

There are some incredibly talented cake designers in the DC area but you may have found that your venue, be it hotel or country club require that you use their cake.  Some in-house bakers are amazing others, no so much.  Be sure to schedule a tasting and pick a flavor that you and your guests will like. But what about the look.  I am a huge fan of the clean simple cake with just one large sugar flower detail, like the one in the image above.  Ask the pastry chef to create a clean cake with rolled fondant and you can provide real ribbon (our favorite resource is M&J trimmings) and one big sugared flower from Global Sugar Art.  Yes, I am a micro-manager.
